Upcoming Classes

Joanne Beaule Ruggles believes she was born an artist. It is clear that her love of the creative process is infectious. Ruggles has the unique combination of solid communication skills and proficiency dealing with an extensive array of concepts, materials, tools, and art techniques.

Passionate about creating her own art, this artist / teacher has been equally eager to share her knowledge and expertise with others. Her natural enthusiasm, her generous encouragement, her willingness to work alongside other artists in a collaborative atmosphere, as well as her gift for simple yet descriptive explanations has provided Ruggles a toolbox of valuable skills to use in helping others learn about art.

Joanne loves to challenge others to continue growing their creative work. She asks questions about how they might expand their initial ideas and to that end, she encourages topics to be grounded upon solid research and dedicated studio practice.

Ruggles twin passions delivered twin honors during her university teaching career. In 2000 Joanne was a selected as a finalist in the annual competition for the California Polytechnic State University Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest teaching honor the university bestows. Four years later, the artist was named one of two recipients of the Cal Poly 2004 Distinguished Research Award for her creative work. Since retiring from her university position, the artist spends time developing her own creative projects and teaches workshops in the USA and Canada.
